Butiki ("we", "our", or "us") values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect the information you provide when using the Butiki mobile application (the "App") and our related services. By using the App, you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
- Phone number: When you sign up, we collect your phone number to create and verify your account by sending a one-time verification code.
- Order & transaction details: Information necessary to process purchases, such as products ordered, delivery address, and payment-related metadata (we do not store full card details unless you choose a saved-payment feature — if applicable, we will explain how that is stored).
- Device & usage data: Basic technical information (device type, operating system, app version, and usage patterns) to improve performance, debug issues, and secure the service.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information for the following purposes:
- To create and maintain your account and authenticate you via SMS verification codes.
- To process orders, handle deliveries, and communicate order status updates.
- To communicate promotions, service messages, and important account notifications.
- To improve and secure the App, analyze usage, and prevent fraud or abuse.
3. Data Retention & Deletion
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personally identifiable information (PII) at any time by contacting our support team (see the Contact section below).
Important: While we will delete or anonymize most of your PII upon request, we retain your phone number for auditing, legal compliance, and fraud-prevention purposes. This retention helps us maintain accurate transaction records and comply with applicable laws.
4. Sharing of Information
We will not sell your personal information. We may share data in limited circumstances:
- With trusted third-party service providers (e.g., payment processors, delivery partners) who help operate parts of the App and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
- If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Butiki, our users, or others.
5. Your Rights
- Access & correction: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct inaccuracies.
- Deletion: You may request deletion of your personal information except for the phone number retained for auditing and legal compliance as described above.
- Withdraw consent: Where we rely on consent for non-essential processing, you may withdraw consent without affecting processing carried out while consent was granted.
6. Security
We implement reasonable organizational and technical safeguards to protect personal data against unauthorized access, disclosure, or destruction. However, no system is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to or from our App.
7. Compliance with Rwandan Laws
Butiki strives to comply with applicable Rwandan laws and regulations intended to protect users from online abuse and misuse of personal information. We review and update this policy as required to reflect changes in local laws and good practice.
Where legal obligations differ across jurisdictions, we will act to meet the requirements applicable to users in Rwanda.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify users via the App and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of Butiki after such updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
